From inside a tide pool, Liam, Grace and Charlotte peer down at a tiny moving shell.

Chapter 01

The pebble that blinked

Something scratched beneath the sparkle of the tide pool.

A striped shell wobbled. It stopped. Then it wobbled again.

Liam “That pebble just walked!”

Grace “Pebbles don’t walk.”

Liam leaned closer. Two bright eyes blinked from the shadows.

Liam “This one does.”

Seen from above, the children carefully circle a tide pool while Charlotte opens her notebook.

Chapter 02

A creature with a house

The Curious Ones spread around the pool—but not too close.

Charlotte “First rule: look before you touch.”

Grace spotted feelers. Liam spotted legs. Charlotte spotted two tiny claws.

Grace “It’s a crab!”

Liam “A crab carrying a house.”

The little traveler hurried toward a crack in the rocks.

Charlotte sketches their guesses while Liam and Grace study the tide pool beyond her notebook.

Chapter 03

Three guesses

Charlotte drew what they knew: a spiral shell, many legs, and two claws.

Charlotte “What does it need?”

Grace “Water?”

Liam “A bigger house?”

Charlotte “Maybe. Let’s keep watching.”

Then Liam saw the trouble. The crab’s path ended at a deep, dry groove.

Pause & wonder: what would you do?

Would you move the crab, build it a bridge, or wait for another clue?

A close view reveals the hermit crab’s legs and claws emerging from its spiral shell.

Chapter 04

The brave little traveler

The crab stretched one careful leg into the groove.

Scritch. Slip. Scritch.

Its shell tipped sideways.

Liam “I can rescue it.”

His hand floated over the water.

Charlotte “Wait. Helping starts with understanding.”

The crab steadied itself—and raised one claw toward the sea.

A small wave rushes toward the hermit crab as Liam’s mother gently stops him from reaching into the pool.

Chapter 05

Whoosh!

A wave leaped over the rocks.

Grace “Here it comes!”

Liam reached forward. Mom held him safely by the shoulder.

Whoosh! Water filled the groove and lifted the tiny traveler.

The crab paddled, caught the rock, and climbed higher than before.

Charlotte “The sea was its bridge.”

Liam “And we almost got in the way.”

Liam considers an empty shell while Charlotte points to another crab that may need it.

Chapter 06

The shell in Liam’s hand

Beside Liam sat a perfect empty shell—striped, smooth, and just his size for a pocket.

Liam “Can this one come home?”

Charlotte pointed. Another small crab searched between the stones.

Charlotte “An empty shell may not be empty for long.”

Liam turned it once in his palm. Then he tucked it safely between two rocks.

Liam “A house waiting for someone.”

At sunset the children draw their discovery while the hermit crab reaches a safe rocky crevice.

Chapter 07

Take only the wonder

The crab reached the cool crack in the rocks and disappeared inside.

The Curious Ones opened their notebook.

Grace drew a house with legs. Charlotte mapped the crab’s journey. Liam drew the wave as tall as a mountain.

Grace “We’re leaving with nothing.”

Liam “Not nothing.”

He tapped the page. They had the clues, the surprise, and the whole wild story.

At home that evening, the children add their hermit crab drawings to a glowing wall of discoveries.

Chapter 08

The Wonder Wall

That night, they added the walking shell to their Wonder Wall.

Under it, Charlotte wrote three things:

Look closely.
Ask what belongs.
Help without taking over.

Liam studied the empty space beside their drawing.

Liam “Good. We’ll need room.”

Grace “For what?”

Outside, something rustled in the moonlit garden.

Liam “The next discovery.”
